Glass Options

The glass does most of the work. Frame choice matters, but thermal comfort, noise reduction and safety are decided at the glazing.

Glass types

Clear Glass

Clear toughened glass is a versatile glass that comes in a variety of thicknesses. It is the most popular type of glass and offers a clear view both inside and out.

Frosted Glass

A translucent glass that allows light through while producing fuzzy images. Used where daylight matters but visual privacy is necessary. Typically advised with double-paned (DG) glass.

Tinted Glass

Light-coloured or tinted glass improves the visual appeal of a room and lessens the harshness of sunshine. Depending on the degree of tinting, the light passing through increases or decreases.

Reflective Glass

Treated with coatings that reflect heat and solar radiation while letting natural light in. Advised with double glazing, and significantly lowers heat and radiation.

Laminated Glass

One or more layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) permanently bonded between glass layers. Used where safety is paramount — fragments stick to the PVB layer when broken.

Glazing types

Single Glazing

One pane. Suitable where neither thermal nor acoustic performance is the priority.

Double Glazing

Two panes with a sealed cavity. The baseline for thermal comfort and a meaningful step up acoustically.

Triple Glazing

Three panes. Specified where thermal or acoustic demands are highest.
